Joseph E., 94, of Maywood, NJ passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013.
Joe, a proud Maywoodian since 1953, is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Agnes (nee Neighmond) Rodgers, and survived by his daughters, Judith Rodgers of New York City, and Kathleen Rodgers-Roland, of Whitehall, PA, and three grandsons, Daniel, Matthew, and Gideon Rosenthal.
Joe was beloved by all who had the pleasure to know him, including his many business associates, friends, and neighbors. The author/illustrator of the cartoon strip, "The Lucky Rabbit," Joe was cited by the U.S. Navy for his efforts at boosting morale during World War II, when he served as Radioman First Class on the U.S.S. Independence, whose reunion newsletter he edited for ten years. Joe was an active member of the Maywood Rotary Club, of which he was Past-President, and a lively presence at the Arena Diner of Hackensack, where, dressed in jacket and tie, he held court daily. He also was the owner of J.E. Rodgers Associates in Maywood for over 35 years.
