Nancy (Foster), 85, of Simsbury, CT, wife of the late Richard K. Bird, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. She was born November 6, 1928 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late John Wallace and Allida Mae (VanBenschaten) Foster and had lived in Ridgewood, NJ and Sanibel Island, FL for many years prior to moving to Simsbury, CT 14 years ago. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and had attended Syracuse University and Barnard College. Nancy was a 55 years member and past President of the Federated Woman's Clubs in both Simsbury and Ridgewood, NJ. She was also a member of the United Way and was a member of the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, C T and the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, having been a member of the choir. Nancy was an avid swimmer and diver, and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She also was a talented seamstress and outstanding Grandmother and loved gardening and cooking. She is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Kucharski and her husband Ken of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, Cynthia Carey and her husband Mathew of Simsbury, CT and Barbara Schneider and her husband Bruce of Simsbury, CT; five grandchildren, Logan Tyler and her husband James of Marlborough, CT, Erik R. Schneider of St. Petersburg, FL, John Wallace Foster Carey of New Hartford, CT, William Bird Schneider of Portland, ME and Alexandra V. H. Carey of Colorado; three great grandchildren, Chloe G. Whitbread of York ME, Brooklynn E. and Jacklynn A. Tyler of Marlborough; her brother-in-law, Fredrick F. Bird and his wife Shirin of Bedford, MA. The family would like to extend special thanks to McLean Hospice of Simsbury, CT, and Comforcare of Avon, CT. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, March 22nd, 11 AM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Simsbury Women's Club Education Scholarship Fund, P.O.
