ORADELL — George E. Ciulla, 101, died on Feb. 4.

Son of the late Lilly and Girolamo Ciulla, he was born in New York and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Oradell in 1952. He attended New Utrecht High School where he excelled in football and track and then continued his education at The Pratt institute. He served in the Army Air Corp, 13th Air Force, 307th Bomb Group in the Pacific Theatre seeing combat in Bismark Archipelago, Central Pacific, Guadalcanal, New Guinea and the Northern Solomons. After the war, he took a job with ITT, and in his 30 years of service as an international sales manager, traveled extensively throughout Central and South America and became a member of The Telephone Pioneers. During his many travels, he taught himself to speak five different languages, becoming fluent in all.
Brother of Julius "Jules" Ciulla of Paramus and the late Joseph Ciulla, Victoria Leonardi and Nina Ciulla; uncle of Cynthia Martel and husband John, Barbara Vander Veer and husband Henry, Julia Vogt and husband Donald, Roy Leonardi and wife Bonnie, Jerome Leonardi and wife Jodi, Thomas Leonardi and wife Claire, the late Maggie Friedland and husband Lewis; many grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Oradell, with interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
