Thomas M. JOAQUIN

JOAQUIN Thomas M., 52, of Branchville, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City following a long illness.Born in Suffern, New York, Mr. Joaquin was raised in Waldwick and moved to Frankford Township in 1996. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1975 to 1979. Mr. Joaquin was an Electronic Supervisor for Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority, retiring in February 2009 after 23 years of service. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville, Mr. Joaquin was a member and former chief of the Frankford Township Fire Department and a former member and chief of the Waldwick Fire Co. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.The son of the late Mary E. Snyder Joaquin, Mr. Joaquin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jody; two daughters, Heather Apgar and her husband, Jeremy, of Mt. Arlington, and Amy Joaquin of Frankford Township and her future husband, Brian Caton; his father, Manual Joaquin of Milford, Pennsylvania; his sister, Linda DeBoer and her husband, Roy, of Midland Park; two brothers, Charles (Bucky) Joaquin and his wife, Clare, of Waldwick, and Todd Joaquin of Montague; his father and mother-in-law, Lou and Alida Wiersma; three sisters-in-law, Trudy Eddings and her husband, Roger, Susan Clark and her husband, Joel, and Laura Cloutier and her husband, Jay; one brother-in-law, Louis Wiersma and his wife, Ligia; several nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew.Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, with Firemen's Services at 8:30 PM.
