Walt WOODWARD Obituary
WOODWARD Walt III, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2010 with his family by his side. Walt was born on February 10, 1959 in Paterson, NJ, resided in Monrovia, CA and then returned to the Paterson area to be with family. Walt devoted his life to music, and was well known as an accomplished drummer. After playing in several bands in the NY/NJ area, including Americade and Rachel, he moved to California where he became a member of the band "The Scream." The Scream toured the US, and was featured on MTV. Walt also performed with legendary Surf guitarist Dick Dale, including a world wide tour. Upon returning to NJ he played in various local bands and clubs, and enjoyed being reunited with family and friends. Walt is survived by his mother Elaine, sister Jan, brother Steve and his wife Nadine. He was predeceased by his father Walter. There will be no services per his request. You thundered on skins, but you lived in full flame,
A brother in rhythm, in spirit, in name.
With fire in your heart and a laugh in your stride,
You lived rock ´n´ roll with nothing to hide.
You drew like you drummed-with fierce, wild delight,
A soul chasing stars deep into the night.
You joked like a kid but you read like a sage,
A rebel whose silence could fill up a stage.
You never met Lisa or our boys face to face,
But I told them your stories-they know of your grace.
I pictured them grinning, wide-eyed with pride,
Hearing Uncle Dub jam, with me by your side.
And your last words still echo-so bold, so true:
"Be careful what you offer...I might move in with you."
I wish you had, my brother.

Honey man, i miss u more then words! They say time heals, but it does not! I know u r watching over Dakota and I! You would proud of the young man he has become. All honors classes for next year his junior year and is in honors jazz band drumline captain n concert band! He is following in your foit steps as a drummer as well as other instruments! I was saddened to JUST find out Walt has left us... after a search to find some of my friends from the old days.
Walt (and the rest in Americade) were great musicians, entertainers, as well as great guys to know. Walt often had me laughing out loud with his sharp sense of humor. I missed him before I started the search... now, so much more. I only knew him for a short time, back in the "Rock Capital of Brooklyn" days, but the short time has always remained great memories for ME. Thanks Walt!

I remember Walt fondly, and am saddend to hear he passed. We met on a NYC to LA plane ride soon after his move out West and became friends. He spent a Thanksgiving at my house, and I saw a few of his club shows as he was getting started in Calif. We called each other a lot and talked about rock-n-roll. He dreamt about getting famous, but was always homesick for Patterson.

I was so saddened to hear of Walter's passing. We went to Saint Brendan's together for nine yrs. I so glad he followed his dream, and was so well loved. I remember he was also a very talented artist. The last time I so Walter we bumped into each other in the home bakery in Clifton. We must have been about seventeen. I never knew he went on to achieve so much. God bless you Walter. Rest in Peace.

I was sad to hear of the passing of Walt. I knew him many years ago in L.A. . Today he was remembered & now I will look up & smile at heaven knowing he is there looking down on his family & friends & he waits to see them all again.

Wow, I just found out also by accident just now. I have one of his cymbals from the Country Club when he played with Shark Island with all of their autographs on it. I am very saddend by this loss.

Walt, you and I go back to the days of your drumming in the band Rachel and I was in Aggressor, and we did shows together, and I hung out with you, Rhett Forrester and the rest of you guys at the 'Rachel Mansion'...We always had a great time together, and then we both auditioned for Americade, and you got the gig. Didn't see you until you showed up in L.A. after me and you joined my friends Shark Island, and then later played with my friend John Corabi. I miss our days hangin' out together, and you will always be an integral memory of friendship to me. Rest easy my Brother and keep the rhythm going where ever you are.

Wow - very shocked to find this out! I have two very distinctive memories of Walt. The first time I met him was in Queens, NY. He was playing with a band called 'Americade' - He was very easy to talk to, and just a great guy. I have a wonderful picture of the two of us. Second time was a few years later out in Hollywood. At that time, he was playing with a band called "New York" - and was just as nice. I had seen him with Shark Island, and he totally blew me away. So sorry to read this... What a loss! :(
