CLIFFORD
William "Bill" Daniel Jr., died peacefully this past Sunday, April 22nd, in his home at the age of 82. Bill was raised in Ft. Lee, attended Pace University and joined the United States Air Force where he served proudly. He continued his education at Montclair State, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. He joined the faculty of Fair Lawn High School in 1959, where he began influencing the lives of hundreds of students over his 33-year career as a history teacher, DECA Program Director, Varsity Wrestling Coach and as a Century Club Coach in the Sport of Soccer. A Cutter forever. Honored by the Class of 1968 with a dedication of their yearbook to him, he was a big supporter and instrumental in the success of many of the volunteer organizations at the school, always teaching his students to strive for the "Impossible Dream." Bill was also the manager of the Westwood Swim Club from its inception in 1963 for 30 years, where he was personally responsible for the success of the club, its grounds and its fine young staff of life saving instructors. After retirement, he became an avid golfer, a hole-in-one achiever, and a starter at the Old Tappan Golf Course.
Bill, Cliff or Papa, as he was known to his family and many friends, had a passion for life. He was an eternal optimist, a story teller and an educator to all. He was a man defined by his strong handshake who never knew the word "hate." Papa most enjoyed spending time with his family, with a particular love of watching his grandchildren grow and learn.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane (nee Godfrey), son Daniel and his wife Janna, daughter Katherine and her husband Scott Tremble, and his daughter Mary Jane and her husband Michael Cochran, along with six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Eric, Andrew and Scott Tremble, Michael and Caitlyn Cochran. His younger sister Maureen predeceased him.
A memorial service has been planned for Saturday, May 5 at 2 PM at Our Lady of Good Council in Washington Township, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice of Bergen County, 105 Fairview Avenue, Westwood, NJ 07675.
