Charles PARNOW Obituary

PARNOW Charles J., age 71, died peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2010. Born in Jersey City, Charles lived in Union City before moving to Wyckoff 35 years ago. After graduating from NYU with a B.S. degree in journalism and finance, Mr. Parnow's career in writing began as a financial writer for United Press International (UPI). He subsequently held positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York where he composed print and multimedia educational material for both adults and children, and was the editor of the company magazine. Before retiring Charles was a senior writer of public information for the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Parnow was a member of the New York Financial Writers Association and the Overseas Press Club. Charles was devoted to his family with whom he shared his many hobbies including reading, photography and music. His love of the outdoors began as a youth in the Boy Scouts of America where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the National Guard and a parishioner of Our Lady Mount Carmel R.C. Church of Ridgewood. Charles is survived by his beloved wife Mary to whom he was married for 49 wonderful years, his son Charles J., Jr. and wife Maire of Pearl River, NY and his daughter Mary P. and husband Gary Sproul of Oakland, CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service, Wednesday, 9:45 AM at the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass, 10:45 AM at Our Lady Mount Carmel R.C. Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ. Interment, George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth, (www.scnj.org) P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476, would be appreciated.
