MARTIN Harold, of Cresskill, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the age of 92. Raised in Brooklyn, he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Rutgers and served in the Army 1943-46. After a successful business career, he turned to politics, which was a lifelong interest. His election as Freeholder in 1964 marked the first time in 50 years that a Democrat had won in Bergen County. Losing a re-election bid in 1968, he won election in 1973 for the first of three terms representing the 39th District in the NJ Assembly, serving on the Appropriations and Education Committees. As proud as Harold was of his government service, he was prouder still of his family. He is survived by Reba (nee Lerner), his wife of 54 years; their son Gary of Assonet MA; their daughter Terry, her husband Barry Zingman, and their children Lisa, Michael and Jackie of Rye Brook NY; their daughter Susan, her husband Matthew Skalla, and their children Brian and Ben of Sparta NJ; their son Peter, his wife Jennifer, and their children Henry, Sam, and Charlie of Wyckoff NJ; his sister Anne Grundfast of Thousand Oaks CA; and his brother Alfred Gary and his wife Gloria of Gainesville FL. Private services were held. Charitable donations are preferred in lieu of gifts.

Peter-
Your Dad was a very accomplished man with true ideals. I'm very sorry for your loss, and at the same time inspired by the legacy he's left for you and your family. May his memory be a blessing for all of you.
