Dr. Owen died peacefully at his home in East Orleans, MA on May 4, 2013 at the age of 88. Owen led a rich and full life to the end.
Born in Ridgewood, NJ, he graduated from Ridgewood High School and went on to Guilford College, Princeton University (Class of 1948) and Tufts Dental School where he graduated as a DMD in Oral Surgery. Prior to Princeton, Owen served as a Pharmacist's Mate Second Class in the Pacific for two years with the Navy while on the USS Guam during WWII. He also served as a dentist at Parris Island in Beaufort, SC during the Korean War. After his double tour of duty, Dr. Calderwood practiced Oral Surgery for over 30 years in Ridgewood, NJ at the Valley Hospital and with a dental office located in his home. Owen's parents were William Henry Calderwood and Florence Bell Calderwood. Owen was a terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie, his son Clay Calderwood, Jamie Calderwood and his wife Sarah Sherman, Bill Calderwood and his wife Robin Carlaw, and Lucy and her husband Dick Hersey, his sister Jean Wood, and seven accomplished grandchildren Ruby, Alec, Peter, Lily and Alex Calderwood and Dickon and Will Hersey.
Living and walking by the motto, "full steam ahead," he set a fast pace, but knew we were always behind him. We raise the parting glass
