Virginia "Ginny" Rae, age 96, of Emerson, NJ (nee Ridgefield Park), passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Emerson Health Care Center.
Born in Ridgefield Park May 21, 1917 to the late Sadie Lydia (nee Sneden) and Frank John Keller, she was a direct descendent of Anna Brinkerhoff and David Christie, two of the first settlers of Ridgefield Park. Virginia "Ginny" Kappeler was one of the oldest life-long residents of Ridgefield Park.
A graduate of Edgewood Park Junior College in CT, she was a receptionist at J. Walter Thompson in NYC and Richardson Specialty in Englewood before retiring in 1974.
Ginny was proud of her involvement with the Village. She was a member and past president of the Little League, member of the Elks Emblem Club, Elder at the First Baptist Church, and a member of the R.P. Seniors, and St. Francis Drama Productions. In 1985 she organized the R.P. Tercentennial Celebration. An especially proud moment for Ginny was to be named Grand Marshal of the Fourth of July Parade.
Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Edward Koenig Kappeler and the late Homer Masland, devoted mother of Jon Kappeler and his wife, Angela, Leanne Lanzetta, Bette Kappeler and Laurie Kappeler. Dear friend of Stanley J. Reed. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Dawn Moylan, Thomas Lanzetta, Devin McDermitt and Sonia Christie Kappeler and her cherished ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral Thursday 10:30 AM at the Vorhees Ingwersen Funeral Home, 59 Main Street, Ridgefield Park. Interment George Washington Memorial Park. Visiting Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
