Nicholas P., age 99, of Harrington Park passed away quietly in his home in the company of his family on February 14, 2014. Loving husband of the late Anne, who passed away in 1976. Devoted father of Mary Santoro Pitts of San Francisco, California and Nicholas John Santoro of Oriental, North Carolina. Beloved grandfather of John Pitts, Jennifer Pitts and Alyce Santoro and great grandfather of Lucia Muthu and Nicholas Muthu. Nick was born in Manhattan on November 7, 1914, the youngest of six children and the only son. He moved to Cresskill with his wife and children in 1942 and later to Tenafly where he served as Assistant Post Master. Nick was a bicycle enthusiast. As a young man he raced and as one of the city's first bicycle messengers, he earned the nickname "The Flying Phantom" from his fellow letter carriers. Until age 91, he was a recreational cyclist in neighboring New Jersey towns. Nick enjoyed classical music, played the violin and assisted with choral programs at Brookside Village in Harrington Park.
