Helen "Eleni" (nee; Diamantopoulos), 82, of Edgewater, died on March 11, 2014, after a long and joyful life. Born July 1, 1931, in Patra, Greece, she came to the United States as a teenage girl with her family in 1946. It was in New York City that she met the love of her life, Nikos Cockinos, with whom she led a wonderfully romantic life filled with love, dance, and travel. Helen worked as a professional hairstylist for nearly 60 years. She was a faithful parishioner of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Ascension in Fairview, NJ. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Niko in 1998. She was a deeply devoted mother to her two children Violet Mavrakis and her husband Vasilios, and James Cockinos and his wife Constantina. Helen was an adored and cherished grandmother of six: Niko, Eleni and George Mavrakis, and Nicholas, Zoe and Samantha Anna Cockinos. Helen is also survived by her brother Peter Diamant, and sisters Maria LaGreca and Sylvia Stratiotis, beloved brothers-and sisters-in-law as well as many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive their friends on Friday 5-9 PM at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street "opposite the Fort Lee Library".
