Obituary Condolences

Bernhardt W. M.D. "Barney," of Closter, son of the late Walter C. and Helen Tyler Hausheer, passed away on March 12, 2014 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of the late Sally Ann (nee Rafferty). Devoted father of Susan, Elizabet, Justine, Sara and Andrea. Dear brother of Carl and his wife Margie and the late Major and Richard. Loving Pop Pop of Christopher, Sean, Bridget, Peter, Allison, John, Evan and Thomas. Great-grandfather of Matthew. Barney was a graduate of Xavier High School, Georgetown University and Albany Medical College. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Barney was a Pediatrician at Englewood Pediatric Associates and Englewood Hospital where he later served as Director of Quality Assurance. He was the school physician for Bergenfield Public Schools. Barney also served at Conklin Youth Center and the Juvenile Detention Center of Bergen County where he cared for the medical needs of those less fortunate. Barney was a master woodworker. To say that Barney loved to work with wood is an understatement. He shared with his family and friends his precious hand made furniture, toys, and intricate scroll saw pieces, each of which will be cherished for many years to come. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Closter where he also attended daily mass and Bible Study. The family wishes to acknowledge the comfort provided by his caregiver, Emmanuel, to whom we are forever grateful. Visitation at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Dr Tenafly on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Monday 11 AM St Mary's Church Closter. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary c/o the Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 3571, Newtown, CT 06470.
