Margaret "Peggy", née Doherty, passed away on April 13 at age 79. A resident of New York City and Beach Haven, NJ, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, Peggy was known to be a woman of strength, style and vision. She attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, worked as fashion editor for Seventeen magazine and a sales representative for Milliken Mills. She met a bespectacled young attorney in 1962 and married the love of her life, Sydney Vale Stoldt Jr., who passed away in 2006. While raising five children, Peggy attended the Parsons School of Interior Design, where she honed her innate sense of style and taste, launching her professional career as an interior designer; she was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. She enjoyed a successful career for many years, counting friends, neighbors and celebrities of note among her clientele. Syd and Peggy loved opera, ballet, theater, museums and travel, making an annual pilgrimage to the island of St. Bart's, where Peggy spent a month recently with her daughters. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Richard and Kerry Stoldt of Midland Park, NJ; Meegan and Jim Graham of New Canaan, CT; Cynthia Aherne of Nyack, NY; Hilary and Ted Thomas of Petaluma, CA; and Derek and Amy Stoldt of New York, NY. Known as "Manya" to her eight grandchildren, she treasured each one for their unique qualities and made them feel loved individually and unconditionally: Jim Stoldt; Hayley Graham; Sydney and Liam Aherne; Ian and Whitney Thomas; and Xavier and Teddy Stoldt. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Stultz, brother John Doherty, sisters- and brothers in-law, and nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly.
Visitors may call at the CC Van Emburgh Funeral home, 306 E Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ, on Tuesday, April 22 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, NJ. Interment at Christ the King Cemetery, 980 Huron Road, Franklin Lakes following the Mass.
