COOKE
Martin E., Jr., 94, of Danbury, CT and formerly of Hillsdale, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2014. "Marty Jr." was born July 13, 1920 in Hoboken, NJ. He was raised in Hoboken and loved his many memories of summers at the Jersey Shore in Rumson, NJ. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Forces 489th Bombardment Group from 1943-1945 as an airplane bomber mechanic stationed stateside and in England. Following his service years, he began 40 years as a Lithographic Pressman and married his cherished bride, Ruth (Bailey) in 1950. They moved to Hillsdale settling into their brand new home in 1954. Marty was a dedicated Volunteer Fireman in Hillsdale enjoying his years of service and proudly marching in the annual Memorial Day parades. He was a member of American Legion Post #162 in Hillsdale and reached his 60-year service milestone this year. Marty was a faithful parishioner of St. John's and subsequently, Our Lady Mother of the Church parishes. Marty Jr. was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, his parents, Martin E. Sr. and Lillian (O'Donnell) Cooke and his brother, John (Jack) Cooke. Marty is survived by his three children and their spouses, Christopher (Ann Marie) Cooke, Stephen (Patricia) Cooke and RuthAnne (Pasquale) Salvatore as well as his loving sisters, Lillian (Cooke) Conrad and Mary (Cooke) Gillen. Marty was a devoted "Pa" to Jennifer Cooke, Kevin Cooke, Stephanie Cooke, Lauren and Thomas Salvatore and thankful to be survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Our Lady Mother of the Church, Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Interment will follow in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Marty's name to either Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut (www.regionalhospicect.org) or American Legion Post #162, Hillsdale NJ (www. americanlegionpost162.org)
