GAITA Joseph, 93, a lifelong resident of Totowa passed away June 1, 2010. Beloved husband of the late Nettie (Vest) Gaita. Devoted father of Elizabeth Shamey and husband Chuck, Joseph Gaita and wife Deborah, Bonnie Sassano and husband Peter and the late John Dan Fitzpatrick. Loving brother of Louise Autore, Mario and Frank Gaita and the late Samuel, Carmen, Anthony, Alfonse, Faye Thornton, Bette Monteyne and Mary Roberto.Cherished grandfather of Dana, Nicole and Joseph Shamey, Amanda Sassano, John Fitzpatrick and future grandson Jeff Koshnick.During his lifetime he worked as a furrier, a weaver and was proprietor of his own restaurant in Ridgewood. Lastly he was a chef at the former Victoria's Station, Wayne. He is an exempt fireman of Totowa Volunteer Fire Co. No.1, a member of the Italian American Social Club of Totowa and was a former marshall with the Totowa Police Dept. During World War II he proudly served as a staff sgt. in the US Army under Gen. Patton, fighting in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters.Funeral Friday 8:45 AM from Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Tpke., Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 AM St. James R.C. Church, Totowa. Interment Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. The family will receive their friends Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. gaitamemorialhome.com
