GAVZY Ike R., age 57, of Hillsdale, NJ, died at home on August 1, NJ, with his family and friends, who have always been very much a part of Ike's life. He is survived by son, Sam Gavzy, wife, Jamie Kreiman, parents, Max and Rita Gavzy, brother, William Gavzy (niece and nephew, Arianna and Asher), sister, Deborah (Jerry) Nedelman (niece and nephew, Liza and Al), his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennifer Kreiman and Jon Kachelmacher (nieces and nephew, Leah, Kari, and Tom), Michael Kreiman and Katie Liu, and his friend/brother, Edward Butler. Ike's life's work was helping people; he served as a Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor for 25 years and in 2008 retired. The day after his retirement from the Prosecutor's Office, Ike joined the firm Bruno and Ferraro (East Rutherford) as a criminal defense attorney. His work associates in both offices were like family to him. Max Gavzy (father) in 1982 and David Gavzy (first cousin) in 2002 gave him renewed life through kidney donation. Ike is remembered as an ethical and kind human being, who valued the worth of all people and sought to preserve their dignity. He adored his family, and they him, more than words can convey. He has been a member of the Veritans, NJ Bar Association, Big Brother Association, and a member of the synagogue family, Congregation B'nai Israel. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at noon at Congregation B'nai Israel, located at 53 Palisade Avenue, Emerson NJ 07630, followed by interment at Cedar Park/Beth El Cemetery in Paramus. The family requests that any donations people wish to make in Ike's honor and memory be made to the synagogue or Save a Child's Heart (, an Israeli medical group which brings children from all countries and faiths to Israel for life sustaining cardiac procedures, as well as teaching in hospitals around the world.
