William Thomas, Jr., of Cliffside Park, NJ, passed away on October 31, 2011 at the age of 80.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of William T. and Emma (Smith) Sterling.
A longtime Bergen County resident, Bill grew up in Ridgewood and graduated from Ridgewood High School. He also lived in Upper Saddle River, and moved to Cliffside Park where he lived for more than 30 years until his death.
Bill received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Columbia University. He worked as an engineer and then as a marketing executive, including for Standard Vacuum Oil Company (Esso) and W.R. Grace & Company. He traveled extensively for work, and lived at times in Australia and Japan.
He is survived by two sons: Dwight of Washington, DC; and Andrew of Tampa, Florida; and by one grandson, Alexander, of Tampa, Florida.
