Robert (Bob) Phillips, 84, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 11th. He was born in Malden, Massachusetts on November 8, 1927. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of corporal. Bob was a long time Ramsey resident for almost 52 years where he served the community. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (nee Stevens) of 61 years, three loving children, Steven of Scottsdale, AZ, Susan and husband Richard Sisti of Vernon, NJ and Alison and husband Larry Dolan of Pearl River, NY, three grandchildren Eric, Alan and Kelly Porteous of Scottsdale, AZ and his nieces and nephews in New England. Preceded in death were his mother and father, Thelma (Turner) & Harry Porteous of Malden Mass and his sister Prudence Patterson of Reading, Mass. He was active in the community throughout his life in Boy Scouts, Ramsey Little League, often umpiring games, the Ramsey Republican Club, a Past Worshipful Master of Hawthorne Fortitude Lodge No 200 Free and Accepted Masons as well as a longtime blood donor. He was always eager to volunteer for a friend or a stranger. Following retirement he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife with trips across the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Panama Canal, and the British Isles. A champion of liberty and an enduring love of the United States of America he actively educated others in the country's founding principles and the United States Constitution. A Masonic Service will be held prior to a Memorial Service at Archer United Methodist Church 37 E. Allendale Avenue Allendale, New Jersey on Saturday December 17, 2011 starting at 11 AM. All are welcome to celebrate the life of a man of integrity, honesty and a true patriot. He was a gentle soul with a quick wit, an endearing smile and always eager to share a joke or two. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his ho nor to his favorite charity, the Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, NY or to Valley Hospice in Ridgewood, NJ.
