Barbara Jean, 63, of Lodi for over 30 years and formerly of East Rutherford passed away on January 4, 2012. She was an educator in the East Rutherford school district for 41 years and retired in 2011. Barbara was a Reading Specialist and Language Arts teacher at the Alfred S. Faust Intermediate School grades 5-8 and then was a third grade teacher. She was president of the East Rutherford Education Association for many years. She was a member of the BCEA Council of Presidents, and served on their executive and hospitality committees. She also served on the Professional Development Committee as a local member and was in charge of the jointures serving at least seven districts and a member of the NJREA and BCREA. Beloved daughter of Frank Malaterra and the late Maria (nee Glionna) Malaterra. Loving niece of Claire Glionna. Cherished goddaughter of Thomas Smeriglio and his wife Elizabeth. Devoted godmother of Bonnie Buchetto, Michelle Redman and Allyson Witt. Also survived by several loving cousins, friends and collegues. Funeral from the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad Street, Carlstadt on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 9 AM and from St. Joseph's R.C. Church, East Rutherford at 9:30 AM. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Visitation Friday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tomorrows Children's Fund, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, NJ 07601.
