Frederick Richard (Fritz), 93, of Paramus, passed into the Lord's care peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 12, 2012. Beloved husband of Jessie (nee De Boer) for 59 years. Devoted father of Fred Behnke and his wife Debbie of Wyckoff NJ and Luann Behnke Tampe and her husband Jeff of Sea Girt NJ. Loving grandfather of Laura, Lindsay and Freddie Behnke, Ryan and Kevin O'Connor, and Jeffrey Tampe Jr. Beloved brother of Donald Behnke of Paramus. Predeceased by his brother Walter Behnke and his sisters Helen Clute and Evelyn Eccleston.
Fritz was born in Paramus and was a local farmer with his family until the farm was sold. Before retiring, Fritz was the co-owner of Behnke's Paramus Building Supply. He was an Exempt member of the Paramus Fire Company #4, Member of the Paramus Rotary, former board member of the NJ Lumberman's Association, and past President of the Paramus Chamber of Commerce. He was the founding President of the Restored Rusty Relics Antique Car Club of Paramus. For many years, Fritz was the town historian of Paramus and was later honored by having The Paramus Fritz Behnke Historical Museum named after him. Fritz was a member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church in Hawthorne, NJ.
Funeral Service Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10 AM at Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 State Highway 208, Hawthorne. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, S-113 Farview Ave, Paramus.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Hawthorne Gospel Church.
