Marie Bienstock Obituary

BIENSTOCK
Marie, 88, of Pompton Plains died on June 9. Marie was born 7/29/1923, in Elberfeld, Germany to parents Screnza and Shmul Davidovitz. She emigrated to France in 1933 when anti-Semitism forced her family to flee. During World War II, Marie hid with seven family members in the Creuse section of France, from July 1942-September 1944. Her testimony was recorded for Spielberg's Survivors of the Shoah project in 1997. Extracts can be viewed at http://youtube.com/bevmargo.
Marie is survived by her youngest sister, Henny Teitler and her husband Sidney, her son Claude Bienstock, her daughter Simone Sandler and her husband David, her youngest daughter Beverly Margolies and her husband Mitchell, plus four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Marie was recently predeceased by her husband Jack Bienstock who died on 7/19/11, just after his 90th birthday. Marie and Jack met in Paris, France and were married for 65 years. Jack arranged for their escape from Paris to Ceyroux in July 1942, enabling them to survive during the Holocaust. Marie is also predeceased by her sister Sonia Schneigeiger.
Despite the severe scars left by the Holocaust, Marie continued to believe that "life is beautiful." Funeral arrangements by Louis Surburban Chapel in Fair Lawn.
