Paul Aloysius Pyontek died on June 17, at Merry Heart in Boonton Twp. following a long illness. He was 87.

Born in Boonton, he was a long time resident of Montville before moving to Boonton Twp. in 2009.

In 1943, Pyontek was drafted into the U.S. Army for active duty in World War II where he trained at jump school, was assigned to the 376th Parachute Filed Artillery Battalion of the 101st Airborne as corporal and was awarded a Purple Heart.

During the Korean War he was on the 38th Parallel and was Sergeant first Class.

Before retiring in 2005, Pyontek was the custodian at the Craig School in Boonton.

A member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, he was also actively involved in the Montville senior citizens club and the Montville Historical Society. He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and worked at Drew Chemical in Boonton.

Pyontek is survived by his brother, William Pyontek, of Boonton; 10 nieces and nephews, Carolyn Krawczuk, Sondra Leggiardro, John Pyontek, Willie Pyontek, Janet Kalwa, Fred Pyontek, LeeAnn Byram, Darlene Pyontek Dougherty, Marlene Flyte and Richard Pytonek, He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (VanDuyne), in 2007.

Liturgy was offered at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church. Interment followed at the Montville Reformed Church Cemetery. Arrangements were conducted by the Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton. Contributions in his memory may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 215 Hill St., Boonton, NJ 07005.
