Willard C., died peacefully surrounded by his family, Friday August 3rd. Son of the late Ailene and Chester Bell. Willard was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in New Milford. He was married to Viola (nee Hulse) for 61 years. Survived by his six children: Joy Hamilton, Burt Bell, Holly Smith, Edward Bell, Lily Miller, and Dorothy Delgado. Willard was also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Richard and Chester, and a late sister, Carol Unger.
Willard graduated from Hackensack High School. After High School he proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He later went on to graduate Nyack Missionary Institute and served three years as a missionary house parent at the Dessie Scott Children's Home, Pine Ridge, KY. Willard was a loved teacher for the New Milford Board of Education, teaching middle school students for 30 years. He then went on to become a substitute teacher for an additional 15 years. His life Bible verse second Timothy 2.15 "Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly deviding the word of God." Willard's desire was to hear his Lord say "Well done my good faithful servant."
Friends and relatives are invited to attended his funeral at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford on Tuesday August 7 at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Donations may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 245 Monmouth Street, New Milford, NJ 07646; or Gideons International, www.gideons.org
