John J. Hoch, 85 years, died on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Newton Memorial Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late John and Clara (Bentzinger) Hoch. John has been a longtime resident of Sussex since 1965 and prior to that had lived in Hicksville, NY.

Mr. Hoch was a veteran of the United States Navy proudly serving his country during WW II. He was a 1951 graduate of Hofstra University with a degree in Accounting. His education lead him into the field of banking with a long distinguished career in the financial profession. Over his many years he worked for Federal Reserve Bank in NY in 1951 as a bank examiner, he worked for the Bank of Sussex County in Franklin in 1965 as Assistant Vice-President. He worked for Sussex County State Bank in Franklin as a CEO, and also worked for National Bank of Sussex County as a financial advisor retiring in 1991. He was past commander of the Private Charles Auberger Memorial Post #213 of Wantage/Sussex. In his younger years he was active in American Legion baseball for 15 years and Sussex-Wantage Little League Baseball. He was a former member of the Franklin Kiwanis Club, a former councilman for Sussex Borough, former chairman for the Sussex Borough Board of Adjustments, and a former member of the High Point Booster Club. He was honored to be selected in 1987 as Sussex Borough's citizen of the year.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son John Joseph Hoch, Jr. (1970), and his sister Marie Wulpern. He is survived by his loving wife Rita (Puleo) Hoch of Sussex, his daughter's Laura Szymczak and her husband Leo of Fredon, Lynn Harwood and her husband Paul of Naples, FL, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends attended his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13 at Saint Monica's Church, 33 Unionville Road, Sussex. Interment was to follow at Clove cemetery, Wantage Township. Visitation was held at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex on Sept. 12. American Legion Post #213 services will be held on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
