Joseph Edward, 70, of East Rutherford for 48 years, passed away on October 21, 2012. Mr. O'Brien was born in New York City. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve during the Cuban Crisis. Since 2006 he was a Special Police Officer for the East Rutherford Police Dept. Before retiring in 2011, he was an IT Manager for Symphony Fabrics in New York City for 10 years and prior he worked for Duro Industries in Rhode Island for 12 years. His hobbies included boating, fishing, camping and photography. Joe enjoyed providing community service, was dedicated to everything he was involved in and had a great work ethic. He was a member of the East Rutherford Fire Dept.- East Rutherford Truck Co., for 20 years, an exempt fireman, on the Domestic Violence Team, retired from the East Rutherford Emergency Squad and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church. He also drove the bus for the East Rutherford Board of Education and recently drove the senior citizen town bus. Beloved husband for 50 years of Victoria A. (nee Pate) O'Brien. Loving father of Gina M. Oliveri and her husband John, Scott C. O'Brien and his wife Anna Marie and Joseph A. O'Brien and his wife Debra. Cherished grandfather of Lauren and Sarah Oliveri, Scott Jr. and Shane O'Brien and Jeremy and Kayla O'Brien. Dear brother of Philip O'Brien. Funeral from the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad Street, Carlstadt on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 9 AM and from St. Joseph's R.C. Church, East Rutherford at 9:30 AM. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
