LINCOLN PARK — Services were held for Ernest J. Gilliland, 86, of this community, who died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
Born in Newark, Mr. Gilliland moved to Lincoln Park 62 years ago. He was a road supervisor for the County of Morris, where he worked for 25 years before retiring in 1988. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 279, Lincoln Park. He was a 52-year veteran of Lincoln Park Fire Department Hose Co. No. 1, serving as deputy chief. He was a member of the Fairfield Fire Department as well. He was a member of the New Jersey State Firemen's Relief Association and the New Jersey State Firemen's Exempt Association. And, he was a parishioner of St. Andrew's P.E. Church, Lincoln Park.
Services were Monday at the Keri Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lincoln Park First Aid Squad, 34 Chapel Hill Rd., Lincoln Park, NJ 07035.
Mr. Gilliland is survived by his wife, Myrtle; his son, George; his sister, Patricia Kamenetz; and two grandchildren.
