FISHER
John Galt "Jack," died November 17 at Peconic Landing in Greenport, NY. He was 90 years old. He was born May 14, 1922 to Grace Hatfield and George Franklin Fisher. He graduated from Scarsdale H.S. in 1941 and attended NC State University.
During WWII, he served in the Coast Guard Picket Patrol and became part of the "Hooligan Navy" that patrolled the North Atlantic in wooden sailboats on anti submarine patrols. He was recently honored during the Greenport Maritime Festival as Grand Marshall.
He married Frances Ridley Williams June 3, 1950. Frances predeceased Jack in 1983. They settled in Closter, NJ. He was the President and owner of Fisher Oldsmobile in Bergenfield, NJ until 1988. In May, 1991 he married Betty Martens Kunkel. Jack summered every year of his life in New Suffolk, NY and moved there permanently upon retirement in 1988. He loved sailing, boating and everything about the North Fork of LI. especially the Wednesday night around Robins Island races.
His memberships included: President of the Bergen County Auto Ass., Knickabocker CC, Board of director of Fellowship Savings and Loan, Rotary of Bergenfield and Southold, New Suffolk Civic Assoc. Old Cove Yacht Club, Peconic Bay Sailing Assoc. North Fork Country Club and Southold Presbyterian Church.
Jack and Betty have been residing at Peconic Landing since 2002.
Jack was predeceased by his brothers George and Robert Fisher and is survived by three children: Nancy Endemann of Cutchogue, Sandra Gannon of Cutchogue, and Jay Fisher of Dumont, NJ. He leaves six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Also surviving are two stepsons Louis Kunkel and Henry Kunkel and seven step grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Visitation at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home, Saturday Nov. 24, 3-7 PM
A service at Southold Presbyterian Church, Sunday Nov. 25 at 1:00 and reception immediately following at Northfork Country Club.
