Douglas G., 71, of Ocala, FL passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
He was born on September 1, 1941 in Newark, NJ to Dr. Samuel and Ervilla Slaymaker. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Masters Degree in Social Work and started his career at the Essex County Welfare Board. He then went on to Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ where he worked for 29 years. At PVH he was initally the Director of Social Service and went on to become President of Bergen Community Health Care (the hospital's home health care agency) and Director of Community Relations. He retired in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Inger DeLong Slaymaker; daughters Laura Slaymaker of Miami, FL and Katie Favara of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters Jennifer Hennessey of Palos Verdes, CA, Nancy Fitzsimmons, Andover, NJ; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Logan Favara.
A celebration Service will be held at Hospice of Marion County, Legacy House Chapel in Ocala on Thursday, December 20th at 11 AM. Donations to Community Hospice of Bergen County, 105 Fairview Ave., Westwood would be appreciated.
