GIARDIELLO
Francis R., 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Frank was born on April 26, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Adelina and Toby Giardiello. He grew up in Paterson, graduating from Central High School in 1940.
During World War II, Frank was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. His aircraft was shot down in 1944 during a raid near Politz, Poland and he was interned in Sweden. After the war Frank attended Georgetown University where he graduated cum laude in two and a half years with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1951 and practiced law in the city of Paterson for many years.
Frank married Ruth (nee Voorman) in 1953 and resided in Totowa where they raised three children. He served the Borough of Totowa for many years-as borough attorney, tax collector, treasurer, municipal judge and as the first chairman of the Totowa Industrial Commission. He was the third Grand Exalted Ruler of Passaic Valley Elks Lodge No. 2111.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, and brother, Roger. He leaves three children: Toby and his wife Debra of Pompton Plains; Jon and his wife Sandra Van Enk of Wayne; and Susan Kientz and her husband Stephen of Wayne, along with four grandchildren: Nicholas, Eric, Jon Peter and Michael.
For those wishing to make a donation in Frank's name, the family suggests donations be made to the St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052.
