Filiberto D. "Phil", on March 30, 2013, of Rutherford, NJ, age 92. Phil was born in Calabria, Italy and came to the United States in 1929. Before retiring, he worked as an import/export manager for U.S. Lines in NYC. He proudly served our country in World War II participating in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge as a tank commander in the U.S. Army. Additionally, he was a member of the Rutherford American Legion Post 109 and a member of the Rutherford Guardsmen. Beloved husband of 65 years to Sally (nee Marino). Devoted father to Louis P. and his wife Grace, and Theresa Van Schoyck and her husband Peter. He was predeceased by his brothers Emanuel and Alfred, and sister Carmela Pallone. Cherished grandfather to the late Jason, Nicole, Lauren and her husband Alejandro Cabrera, Lindsay and her husband Dennis Aloise Graf, and Philip. Loving great-grandfather to Isabella and Anthony. Adored uncle to Delfina Bowles and her husband Paul. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phil was known affectionately as "Papa" to his grandchildren. His greatest joy was being with his family. He was instantly loved by all who knew him. He will especially be remembered for his meticulous vegetable garden, particularly his prized tomatoes for which he was most proud. Funeral from the Macagna-Diffily-Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., Rutherford, NJ, on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 8:30 AM, thence to St. Mary RC Church, Rutherford, NJ, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ. Visiting hours Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
