Josephine, on April 9, 2013, of Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Josephine was born in Guttenberg, NJ to the late Antonio and Elisa Mauro, both born in Italy. Josephine was a self-employed real estate broker and insurance agent with Mauro Realty in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She was a graduate of Drakes Business College and had attended New York University. Throughout her lifetime, Josephine was involved in many civic and charitable organizations. She was past President of the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors, past President of the North Hudson Board of Realtors, past Secretary of the NJ Assoc. of Realtors, past First District VP of the NJ Assoc. of Realtors, past VP of the Women's Council for NJ, NY, and Penn., past Chairwoman of the NJ Assoc. of Realtor's Convention in Atlantic City, and past President of the North Jersey Manufacturers and Business Assoc. Josephine was also the recipient of many awards and honors. She had received four National Association Awards, Realtor of the Year Award for Eastern Bergen County and North Hudson Board of Realtors, Community Service Award for Eastern Bergen County, North Hudson, and the New Jersey Assoc. of Realtors, Distinguished Service Award for the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors, North Hudson Board, and the Central NJ Lung Assoc. She received the Meritorious Service Award from the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors and the Makes America Better Award from New Jersey Assoc. of Realtors. She was the first woman to hold Presidency of the Eastern Bergen County Board in 37 years, first woman to Chair the State Convention in 49 years, first woman to hold presidency of the North Jersey Manufacturers and Business Assoc. in 58 years, and the first woman and individual to receive proclamation from Governor Byrne of the State of NJ proclaiming her Realtor of the Year in 1980. Josephine, together with Tony Danza, was honored by Boy's Town/Girl's Town of Italy for their distinguished service to the children of Italy. Josephine, with the help of her parents, cousin Ernesto Buda and other friends and relations founded and funded a boy's orphanage in Castel Nuovo, Italy. This home was later donated to the orphanage. As Director in the North Hudson Board of Realtors, Josephine implemented a program whereby each Christmas a party was had for the children of St. Joseph School for the Blind with gifts for the children and funds to help the blind. As director for the Central Jersey Lung Assoc., Josephine chaired the Christmas Seal Ball for four years and ran Fashion Shows for fund raising. She had served as liaison officer with pastor's of local church's regardless of race, color, or creed. She assisted in locating housing and job's for those in need and served on the advisory committee of the Galilee Methodist Church. Additionally, Josephine served on the Landlord and Tenant Committee and the Realtor Committee for the Town of West New York, a trustee for the Borough of Englewood Cliffs to assist elderly, and a member to the Trustee Search Committee for Bergen Community College. She made many trips to Italy after 1950 doing charitable works for the children of the Village of Medassino. Devoted sister to Rose Gunther, the late Sarah Petrolino. the late Nicholas Mauro, the late Ann Esposito, and the late Frank Mauro Sr. Loving aunt to Joseph Petrolino Sr. and his wife Marjorie, Robert Petrolino and his wife Jane, Frank Mauro Jr. and his wife Ellie, Anthony Mauro and his wife Mary Ellen, Anthony J. Mauro, and Alfred Gunther and his wife Karen. She is also survived by many grand and great-grand nieces
