Richard Sheffield Obituary
Richard, age 82, a longtime resident of Teaneck and Englewood passed away Monday, July 13, 2015. Dick grew up in Newark and joined the Army at age 18 where he served with distinction as a paratrooper. Upon his discharge from the US Army, Dick worked at the Ford Motor Company plant in Mahwah, New Jersey. It was here that he distinguished himself by fighting for equal rights for minority employees. At the same time, he held a second job managing a chain of movie theaters in Bergen County. It was at a theater in Englewood where he provided employment to scores of teenagers who looked up to him as a role model. Dick was also a political activist. He started working on campaigns for the UAW and was heavily involved in the campaigns of State Senator Matthew Feldman, Congressman Steve Rothman and U.S. Senator Bill Bradley. In recognition for his dedicated work, Senator Bradley appointed him to the Board of the US Air Force Academy. Dick is survived by his daughters Simone, Richelle, and Camille and a granddaughter Cameron. Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday 10 AM-12 noon at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck. A service in celebration of Dick's life will begin at Noon. I always remember my Uncle Richie because he was just that guy. I was sad when he moved because I no longer could reach him but he will always be in my memory. Out of everyone's telephone number I would remember his; although regretfully I did not use it often. It's funny how things work. I would always Google him and today I found this. I will always have my memories of him. Rest in peace. Love always.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Richard "Sheff" Sheffield. He made me laugh, watched over my father, and was a huge Giants fan! I will miss his wonderful personality and love of life!
