James Savasta Obituary

SAVASTA
James ("Jimmy"), age 83, of Monroe, New Jersey, died peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
Born in Clifton, New Jersey, to the late Natale "Neil" Savasta and Vincenzina "Jennie" Savasta, he resided in Clifton for most of his life. He graduated from Clifton High School and thereafter attended Seton Hall University. After working summers at the family grocery store in Long Branch, NJ and during the school year delivering hot Italian bread for Savasta Brothers Bakery, he proudly and honorably served in the United States Army. Upon his discharge, he married the love of his life, the former Grace Ganguzza, and went on to become Vice President of the family business, Valley Fair Enterprises, where he developed and maintained numerous friendships which endured until his final days. Later, he went on to own and operate Met Foods in Leonia, NJ and thereafter worked at Pinnacle Supermarket in Guttenberg, NJ until the time of his retirement. Jimmy was predeceased by his loving wife, Grace who he sorely missed each and every day since her untimely passing in 2008. He is survived by his dear sister Roseann and her husband, John "Jack" Hazinski of Little Silver, NJ, his brothers-in-law Rosario "Sam" Ganguzza of Park Ridge, NJ and Joseph Ganguzza and his wife, Frances of Clifton, NJ; his son Natale "Neil" G. Savasta, Esq. and his wife, Jadine of Clifton, New Jersey, and two daughters Vincenza "Vinni" Schroeder and her husband Joseph of Wharton, NJ and Rosellyn Cassidy and her husband Martin of Suwanee, Georgia, by four grandchildren who he adored unconditionally, Victoria and Natalie Cassidy and Grace and Jessica Schroeder. Jimmy loved listening to and singing Italian melodies, watching old tv westerns and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. Most of all, Jimmy loved his family and cherished his numerous friendships. He will always be remembered with a smile on his face and with love in his heart. He was truly a wonderful man and all who knew him were lucky to have him in their lives. So long, Jimmy. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday at Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012 followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday 4-8 PM. www.allwoodfuneralhome.com

To Jimmy's family, my deepest condolences on your loss. Jimmy was my first boss - we worked together at Valley Fair in Hillsdale the day it opened in November 1959. Jimmy was fun, funny, and such a hard worker. He was a wonderful person to work for and I understand how much he will be missed.
