Audrey Burkart

Audrey Burkart lived from July 12, 1929 to October 9, 2017 in the same handmade beautiful home in Ridgefield, NJ. She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Anna, and her brother Robert. Audrey is survived by her first cousins, Marilyn Burkart, Joan Burkart Weise and Marion Beisler; other cousins, Martha and Richard Richter III, Richard and Amanda Richter IV, Susan Richter, Debbie Weise Kenyon and her spouse, Michael Kenyon, Maryann Weise Mandy and her spouse, Donald Mandy, Daniel Burkart Jr. and Tracy Ann Burkart, and very dear friends.

Audrey has earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree from New York University and a Doctorate from Columbia University in the field of Nutrition and Home Economics. She taught at Ridgefield HS and Rutgers University where she then became the Head of the Nutrition and Home Economics Department.

Audrey loved to cook and would immediately tell you whether a food was good or bad for you. She loved to embroider. She had a huge teddy bear collection. She served as an active member and historian at the Zonta Club of Northern Valley, NJ. She was an active member at the Zion Lutheran Church which her family helped build. She served for many years as the financial officer and council member. She also was head of the Sunday school program for many years. Audrey dearly loved children, the teachers and the Director of the Zion Lutheran Church Little Learners.

Audrey touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Viewing will be held at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral service to be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 941 Slocum Avenue, Ridgefield on Saturday at 10AM. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Zion Lutheran Church of Ridgefield, NJ is welcome.

Audrey was the best! I worked with her on many committees and we served as officers together in the NJ Dietetic Association for many years. As delegates we often roomed together at conventions. You could always count on Audrey to get the job done with grace and cheer. She was the epitome of a food and nutrition professional. She was wonderful with students and clients. Audrey was a wonderful human being, consummate professional and dear friend. We worked together on numerous projects for NJ Dietetic Association and I also worked with her on a special project at Rutgers. She was a kind, generous, and thoughtful person who always gave 100%. Audrey is home with The Lord she loved and served so well. I enjoyed working with her as an Aid Association For Lutherans (AAL), now Thrivent Financial For Lutherans, Representative.
