Emilia "Millie" Misiaszek September 22, 1919 - December 2, 2012 Griswold - Emilia "Millie" Misiaszek, 93, of Felix Street passed away on Sunday morning at the Norwichtown Rehab and Care Center. She was born on September 22, 1919 in Holice, Czechoslovakia daughter to the late Stefan and Julia Valovich. On September 2, 1950 she was married to Stephen Misiaszek in Montreal, Canada. He predeceased her on December 23, 1977. Millie was the oldest of three daughters. In 1934 her family left Czechoslovakia to come to Canada during the Great Depression. She continued her education in Montreal and later became a seamstress. She met her husband Stephen when he was a soldier traveling to Montreal. Emilia made her home in Jewett City and later in her life went to work at Griswold High School. She worked in the cafeteria and often collected money. Her nickname there was "Extra Millie", an indication that students had an extra helping of one of the offerings that day. She retired from the cafeteria after 19 years. She was a member of the Jewett City, Lisbon, and Plainfield senior centers and enjoyed playing bingo, especially when she won. She is survived by her son Robert Misiaszek and his wife Debra of Canterbury, her daughter Barbara Asal and her husband Bill of Griswold, her two sisters Mary Krutil, and Stefie Rohac and her husband Peter, sister in law Victoria Magesky, three grandchildren Heather, Sara, and Billy, a great granddaughter Olivia, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held 10:00-11:00AM Friday at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT 06351. A memorial service will follow at 11:00AM.
