George V. Scofield September 6, 1926 - July 1, 2013 Lisbon - George Victor Scofield, 86, formerly of Taftville, died Monday at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Stamford, CT on September 6, 1926, son of the late William and Frances (Holtman) Scofield. He was united in marriage on April 3, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville to Annette (Adams) Scofield. Mrs. Scofield passed away May 26, 2004. Mr. Scofield served in the U.S. Army
and was a WWII
Veteran. He worked as a psychiatric aide at the Norwich State Hospital for thirty years, retiring in 1980. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved to Imperial Beach in San Diego, CA in 1981 and returned back to CT in 2004. He was a twenty-eight year member of the Taftville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Taftville Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Norwich. He played softball with the Taftville Fire Department, enjoyed camping, going to the casino and spending time with his family. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Scofield of Kissimmee, FL and Mark Scofield of Lisbon; three daughters, Joyce Connell and husband William of Lisbon, Donna Nelson and husband Ted of Cedar Falls, IA and Cynthia Smith and husband Byron of Sterling, VA; thirteen grandchildren, Tammy Hogan, Jennifer Lake, Rebecca Connell, Kimberly Ballestrini, Tiffany Connell, Ronald, Trevor and Keith Boenig, Byron Smith III, Genevieve, George and Christina Smith and Ashley Kelley; seventeen great grandchildren, Dennis, Devon, Brandon, Brianna, Jordan, Kylie, Nathan, Camden, Colton, Ashyia, Kassidy, Maleah, Kaden, Peyton, Kyle, Arabella and Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Mead and Claire Lester and his brother William Scofield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Taftville, meeting directly at church. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Godere Funeral Home, 21 North Second Avenue, Taftville.
