Helen Ann Snarski Zaleski August 27, 1918 - October 2, 2012 Salem - Helen Ann Snarski Zaleski, 94 wife of the late Peter Zaleski of Salem passed from this life to join the angels on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at her home with her brother Raymond by her side. Helen was born on August 27, 1918 in Yonkers, NY, daughter of the late Kenneth and Anna Fedorowicz Snarski Helen Ann and her family purchased land on Gardner Lake in 1954 and opened and managed the Sna-Z Spot Campground in Salem. She was a Registrar for the Democratic Town Committee, and Justice of the Peace. She served the Town of Salem for years while on the Gardner Lake Authority, Board of Selectman, President of the Gardner Lake Fire Company Auxiliary, and Salem Seniors. In 1989 she was awarded the first Salem Unsung Heroes Award. She was employed as a supervisor for John Meyer Fashions in Norwich for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, sewing, reaching out to others and living life to the fullest. Surviving her is her brother Raymond Snarski of Salem, her nieces and nephews, Susan Coffee, Linda Snarski, Richard Snarski, John Snarski, Edwina Callaghan, Joyce Schultz, Edward Mrowka, James Mrowka, Judi Carpio, and Carol Chiswell. She was pre-deceased by her brother Edward Snarski, sister Victoria Mrowka and long time friend Richard "Dick" Shannon. Calling hours will be held 9:00AM on Friday, October 5th at the Our Lady of The Lakes Catholic Church, 752 Route 82, Oakdale, followed by 11:00AM Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Colchester. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gardner Lake Fire Company, 429 Old Colchester Rd., Salem CT 06420.
