Helen Kimball Gates

Helen Kimball Gates May 20, 1922 - August 18, 2013 Danielson - Helen May (Kimball) Gates, widow of Denton H.B. Gates, died on Saturday, August 18, 2013. She was predeceased by her father, Everett Kimball and her mother, Nora (Dougherty) Kimball. She was also predeceased by her sons, Dennis A. Gates, her daughter, Sandra A. (Gates) Galletti, and her son Gary Gates and her granddaughter Natalie Frettoloso. She went to Killingly High School in Danielson, graduating in 1940. She loved dancing, reading, knitting, traveling and socializing. She raised her family in Putnam. She also worked at Grants Department Store for 17 years and in the accounting department at Danielson Federal. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was their treasurer. Helen was interested in family history and was a member of the Danielson Historical Society. She spent over 20 years as a volunteer for Day Kimball Hospital. Her greatest joy and love in life was her large family- children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great, great grandchild, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. She was the rock of her family - patient, non-judgmental, generous, fun loving and wise. She is survived by her children, Douglas Gates and his wife Linda, her son Lance Gates and Cheryl Von Deck; her daughter-in-law Louise Gates; grandchildren, Donna McCormac and her husband George Sottile, Craig Gates and Elke Carlson, Brian Gates and his wife Ulrika, Cheri Anderson and her husband Dean, Paula Russo and her husband Joe, Angela Hutchins and her husband Thayne, Douglas Gates, Nicole McLean and husband James, Gregory Gates and his wife Jessica, Joshua Gates and his wife Leanne; niece Susan Amara and her husband Michael, former daughter-in-law Marie LeSage and husband Al, son-in-law Robert Galletti, several cousins, and good friends, Herb and Michael Gile, Lorraine Breault, Dawn Deary and many others. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Harvest Restaurant on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with a reception following. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
