Helen M. Driscoll(1918 - 2014)

Helen M. Driscoll June 24, 1918 - Feb. 19, 2014 Norwich - Helen M. Driscoll 95, of Williams St. died Wednesday morning at her home. She was born in Marquette, Michigan on June 24, 1918 daughter of the late Engelbert August and Louisa (Dunnebacke) Derleth. Helen graduated in 1939 from the Northern Michigan University. She worked as a school teacher in Michigan and as a secretary for the University of Michigan. On November 22, 1947 she was united in marriage to Judge Paul Driscoll in Marquette, MI. Mr. and Mrs. Driscoll settled in Norwich. Helen worked in Norwich as a teacher at Kelly Junior High School and later helped at St. Patrick's Cathedral School in Norwich. She was active in many church and civic organizations. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 52 years on August 23, 1999. She was also predeceased by all her siblings, a sister, Frances Rayment, a brother, Paul Derleth, a sister, Anne Louise Dillon, a sister Mary Pengelly and a brother, Robert Derleth. Mrs. Driscoll is survived by a son Michael Driscoll and his wife, Mary Driscoll of Norwich, a son, John Driscoll and his wife Mary of Norwich, a daughter, Louise Driscoll and her husband Brian Boyd of Anchorage, AK, daughter. Ellen Driscoll of Woburn, MA and daughter, Mary Clare Driscoll of Santa Monica, CA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff St., Norwich, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Norwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Patrick' Cathedral School, 211 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360 or the Otis Library, 261 Main St., Norwich, CT 06360.
