Joan (Favro) Hymes

Joan (Favro) Hymes April 2, 1935 - October 8, 2012 Norwich - Joan Hymes, 77, of Norwich, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, October 8, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 2, 1935, in Norwich, to Everett and Frances (Maynard) Favro. On April 3, 1952, she married James Robert Hymes in Uncasville and after 44 years of marriage; he predeceased her in 1996. They lived in Uncasville most of their married lives. After a few years Joan moved to Woquonnock Village in Taftville where she resided until her daughter came to care for her and they moved to Norwich. Joan loved to learn and teach arts and crafts; she loved to bake goodies for others and holidays. She enjoyed having her family and friends around her. Everyone loved going to her home for Christmas and eating lemon squares, fudge and so much more. Fall time and Christmas where her favorite times of the year and she went all out with her decorations. She was a very loving and giving person who would take time out to listen or lend a helping hand. She will be missed by many. Joan is survived by her four children; sons James Hymes and Dale Hymes; daughters, Paula Fallis and Debora Cole; five grand children; four great grandchildren; Brother; Everett Favro; sisters, Fay Overla, Shirley Emilyta, Ida Chubka, Carol Hill and Cheryl Morin and many nephews and nieces.
