John Shork Jr.(1927 - 2014)

John Shork, Jr. June 1, 1927 - Apr. 6, 2014 JEWETT CITY - John Shork, Jr., 86, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 1, 1927, he was the son of the late John Shork, Sr. and Anna (Klimek) Shork. A longtime resident of Jewett City, John attended St. Mary's Grammar School in Jewett City and Griswold High School. Additionally, he attended Putnam Technical Cooperative School graduating in 1945. After high school, John worked at Pratt & Whitney as an aviation mechanic. He was drafted in the Korean War, U.S. Army and went to Europe as part of the occupied forces. Following his service to his country, he attended the Boston Conservatory School and studied music but he could not afford to stay under the G.I. Bill Grant hence, he returned to CT. John then met his wife to be, Gladys (Smith) Shork. They were united in marriage for 56 years on May 29, 1958 in Jewett City. She survives him. John began a career in banking as an Assistant Manager and worked arduously and was later promoted to Vice-President/Appraiser. He was employed at New London Federal Bank for 25 years before his retirement in 1983. He then began a career as a self-employed appraiser, working part-time until the age of 80 when he fully retired. In addition to his spouse, Gladys, John is survived by his son, Stephen Shork of Lisbon; two daughters, Ann-Marie (Shork) Beaulac and husband, Gary Beaulac of Jewett City and Donna (Shork) Jordan and husband, David Jordan of Canterbury; grandchildren, Meaghan Shork-Boucher and husband, Thomas of Alpharetta, GA, Jessica Jordan and Shelby Jordan of Canterbury; extended grandchildren, Jessica Beaulac and Sheighlyn Berbig; sister, Janice Wisniewski of Norwich; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brothers, Walter Shork and Stephen Shork and sisters, Helen Sabrowski, Stella Phaneuf, and Francis Kaiko. The family would like to give a special Thank You to Villa Maria Convalescent Home of Plainfield; Masonicare Hospice Program and two special caregivers, Nex and Sandy. Family will receive relative and friends on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Leffler Funeral Home, 30 N. Main St. Jewett City. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Jewett City. Interment to follow, with full Military Honors, at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lisbon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to St Mary's Church, 34 N. Main St. Jewett City, CT 06351.
