Karen Lynn McGee

Karen Lynn McGee March 15, 1962 - August 4, 2013 Sterling - Karen Lynn McGee, 51, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Colonial Health Care in Plainfield surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Karen was preceded by her parents Geraldyn Ann (Lis) McGee and Walter Eugene McGee. She is survived by her long time care giver and father figure Bruce Parenteau and his partner Paula Brown additionally Susan Chappell Elmer and Bruce and Susan's three children Jessica Parenteau, Sherrie Parenteau and April Griffin as well as their significant others and nine grandchildren. Karen McGee was born March 15, 1962 at Westerly Hospital, Westerly, RI. She moved to Sterling in 1990 where she became a part of the Parenteau family and remained there until her illness required constant care. Karen worked at John Dempsey Regional Center in Putnam and The ARC of Windham County. Karen was a fun loving individual who always brighten any room she entered with her smile. Her favorite pass time was swimming, she also loved to dance, sing and watch Soap Opera's. She participated in Special Olympics for many years. Karen was a huge Bay Watch fan and had an eternal love for David Hasselhoff - Mitch. Karen spent many vacations in her second home in Port St. Lucie, Florida where she helped run the family's business The Water Store in Ft. Pierce Florida. She spent much of her free time on the beach where she loved to be. She will be dearly missed by her family and her long time friend Debra Underwood. A mass will be held in September and a celebration of her life to follow.
