Montcalm R. "Moe" Mathurin(1923 - 2014)

Montcalm "Moe" R. Mathurin Aug. 22, 1923 - Jun. 3, 2014 BROOKLYN - Montcalm "Moe" Roger Mathurin, 90, of Brooklyn, husband of Veronique Pratte Mathurin, died Tuesday at home. He was born in Danielson on August 22, 1923, son of the late Joseph and Maryanne (Richards) Mathurin. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He worked for the State of CT Highway Department for many years. He married Veronique Pratte Mathurin on July 23, 1949, she survives him. Mr. Mathurin was a communicant of St. James Church where he served as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Danielson Lodge of Elks, Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He was an outdoorsman, loved farming, gardening and working with nature. He was a member of the East Brooklyn Fire Department and the Brooklyn Fair Association. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Beatrice A. Roberge of East Killingly and Paul E. Mathurin of Englewood, FL; sister, Marie Champagne of Spofford, NH; grandchildren, Melissa Cacciapuoti and husband Joseph, Brian J. Roberge and wife Jennifer, Nicole Delgato and husband Eric and Jillian Haley and husband Josh, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Michael and Bernard Mathurin; brothers, Maurice and Martin Mathurin; sister, Madeleine DesRoches and son-in-law, Normand A. Roberge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Church, Danielson. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. in Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Killingly FFA Chapter, c/o Killingly High School Agricultural Education Center, 226 Putnam Pike, Dayville, CT 06241.
