Raymond E. Heon

Raymond E. Heon April 1, 1953 - November 19, 2012 Lebanon - Raymond E. Heon, 59, of Lebanon and Willimantic, passed away Monday November 19, 2012 from Small Cell Cancer. He was born in Chicopee, MA on April 1, 1953, the son of the late Irene (Finn) Lukas and Paul Heon. He was the beloved husband and soul mate to Lori Kassman, father to his pride and joy and greatest accomplishment in his life , Montana Heon, loving brother to Alexina (Thomas) Haynes, Kathleen Ossowski, Walter "Skip" and Michael Heon. He also leaves his sister in law, Robin (Kassman) Jacobson, and father in Law, Samuel Kassman, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Raymond graduated from Windham High School, Willimantic and was also an "honorary" UConn student of Watson Hall. In his younger years, Ray had a great work ethic-- tobacco fields, the old American Thread, and Lindy's Diner. Raymond for over 25 years, also had welded for Electric Boat shipyard in Groton. He owned and operated Fluff-N-Fold Laundromat in the heart of Willimantic, where he was known as the "Mayor of the Mall." He recently worked for The Lebanon School system and touched and transformed the lives of so many kids, known there to be "pops" and "the Candy Man." Ray was union president of his local, and a member of the Elks Lodge #1311. Ray will be best known for his integrity, loving spirit, and mostly his overwhelming generosity! He would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar! He was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on those Washington Redskins. Ray especially loved the monthly poker games with the guys. Ray will definitely be so missed by so many but he is finally at peace. It was never for his lack of trying to survive. He fought the whole way, but the Heavens needed another angel. Thank you to all who helped his family through this heart wrenching journey, especially Dr. Barry, for her relentless effort. We love you more. Peace out. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 23rd at 11:00AM at St. Columba Church, Rte. 87 at Rte. 66, Columbia. Interment will be private in Hillel Burial Grounds, Mansfield.
