Dick was just the 'very best neighbor' ever - his warm smile and wave will always be remembered as will his deep love for, not only family, but for 'his Shannie' who always sat by his side with head on his knee while Dick rubbed his ears. Whenever I pass by 'their home', my thoughts turn to Dick, Sally and of course 'Shane'...I do miss them.

Dear Sally and family:
I was saddened to just hear about Dick. "Dickie" and I, as you know, were born just a few days apart, in July 1942, and grew up together as neighbors until I moved to Groton Long Point in the eighth grade. So,we go back a long time. My first car (at 16) was the 1948 Crosley convertible that Dick and his father restored.
Dick Sweezey will certainly be missed.
Sally, my thoughts are with you and the rest of the Sweezey family.

Sally and family,
I was so sad to hear of Dick's passing. He was a gentle soul who would help anyone with sincerity. I can still picture him in his retro converible riding around town. I will miss him, as I'm sure you all will. Please know I share your grief.

Dear Sally and family -
When Ann and I moved to Norwichtown three years ago, everyone we met said how lucky we were to have the Sweezeys as our next-door neighbors.
My first vision of Dick was while mowing my lawn on my lawn-tractor. As I headed westward, the Sweezey kitchen window flew open, and Dick's long, waving arm and welcoming-smile greeted me.
A year later, when our beloved, 20-year-old cat had to be put-down, I have a bittersweet memory of walking over to your back door to ask if Dick had a tool to help me cut through some rebar I had encountered while digging the grave. He came right out with his metal-grinding wheel to assist me. Despite wearing clean and pressed jeans, Dick didn't ask for a tarp to protect his pants, but just plunked down and knelt in the dirt. In no-time, his had sliced through that obstacle, enabling me to complete my task. As he left to go back home, Dick commiserated with my loss, and I remember thinking he was like "The Lone Ranger" - without any of the fanfare.
I regret that my schedule never enabled me to accept his kind offers to be a passenger in his beautiful blue convertible. There would be ample other opportunities, I thought - but alas no.
Dick was a true gentle-man, and a GREAT neighbor, who will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him. If I/we can help in any way, at any time, please don't hesitate to ask.

Dear Sweezey Family ~ I was literally shocked to read Dick was 'born into heaven' yesterday; I am so very sorry. I know my words can't begin to express the sorrow and emptiness you're all feeling. He was a wonderful person and I'll always remember his 'ready smile and wave' as I was biking ~ especially not to be forgotten, seeing him in his chair in the den with his beloved "Shannie" by his side ~ and now they're together once again.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
