Catherine Reynolds Obituary

Catherine Mason Reynolds DIED - Sept. 20, 2014 OSTERVILLE, MA. - Catherine Mason Reynolds, 57, formerly of Brooklyn, went joyfully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 20, 2014, after her body struggled with endometrial cancer. Raised in Brooklyn, she was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Virginia Mason, and grandparents Helen and Chris Mason, of Brooklyn, and Ruth and Clinton Vaughan of Upstate New York. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 35 years, Douglas J. Reynolds, a partner with the CPA firm Grant Thornton. The Masons of Brooklyn were well known and Catherine was the oldest of six siblings. She is survived by brothers Chris of Woodburn, OR, and Craig (Cece) of Germantown, MD; and sisters Cheryl (the Hon. David) Schiappa of Davidsonville, MD, Connie (Joseph) O'Connor of Woodbridge, and Carole (Stephen) Chichester of Katy, TX. She leaves her cherished nieces and nephews Caitlin and Carl Mason, Caleigh and Christopher Mason, Mason and Aly Schiappa, Cole and Katie O'Connor, and Andrew and Ian Chichester. Most special to her was her aunt Audrey Mason of Brooklyn. She was confirmed in her faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Brooklyn and was a 1975 graduate of Killingly High School. All agree that Catherine was singly focused on helping others, so from childhood on her exceptional ability for instantaneous interpersonal insights blessed countless people. Catherine held an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Maine and master's degrees in communications from Fairfield University and macro/clinical social work and pastoral counseling from Boston College. Catherine and Doug met as pen pals and were married at Trinity Episcopal Church in Brooklyn six months after they first exchanged letters. They first lived in Charlotte, NC and later moved to New Hampshire and Massachusetts, where they resided in Osterville on Cape Cod for 22 years. She joined the Boston recruiting firm Winter Wyman & Co. in 1985 and was the managing partner of the firm's Boston technology practice. At the pinnacle of her career in the early 2000s, Catherine retired, enrolled in Boston College's graduate school of social work, and shifted her focus to those in need. She served on the Greater Boston Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and later joined the Board of Directors of Duffy Health Center in Hyannis, MA, whose mission is to serve the homeless and those at risk of homelessness on Cape Cod, and she was on the Duffy Board until her death. In 2008, she founded Reynolds Resource Group LLC to provide recruiting and consulting services to not-for-profit organizations. RRG's motto is 'Doing Good. Giving Back,' a reflection of her daily life helping people. Throughout all those years, foremost in her life was her faith in Jesus Christ. Wherever she lived, she was deeply devoted to her Lord and to her church families. And it was helping others live Godly lives that provided her the most joy. Her church family at Osterville Baptist was most dear to her for over 22 years. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Osterville Baptist Church, 824 Main Street, Osterville, MA, 02655. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Osterville Baptist Church or Duffy Health Center in Hyannis. Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to be sending this years late, but I JUST found out. I am saddened by the passing of Catherine, a truly wonderful, Christian beacon. She was hardworking, encouraging and wonderful in many ways. I worked for her in the past. I remembering speaking with her on Sept 11, when both of us mourned the loss of lives, but prayerfully kept our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am happy that she is with Jesus. Still, I am crying about her passing. Her departure is a tremendous loss for the world! - My love and prayers are with you, the family and others mourning her passing too.

We send our sympathies to the Mason family for the loss of Cathy. She was full of life and giving when we knew her, here in Brooklyn, so many years ago. The Searles Family

So many fond memories spent with Cathy innour teenage years; church.school.rainbow girls.youth group and more. Many great hours spent with the whole clan...my thoughts and prayers go out to you all. May your memories and God's grace comfort you all. Cathy and I were able to reconnect through facebook a year or so ago. I am thankful for that.

We were so sad to hear the news about Catherine. We were all newlyweds when we first met at Brookside Church in 1980. Cathy and Doug were always actiely involved in various committees and in the choir and we spent many fun evenings together at adult fellowship events. We were not surprised to that Cathy later devoted herself to a life of service. She was always vivacious, intelligent and ready to help out and she was a fun person to be with. She will be remembered fondly by those of us whose lives she touched. We are truly sorry for your loss.
With deepest sympathies,

We are deeply saddened by Cathy's passing. As her Brookline neighbors, we were particularly impressed, not only by her warm personality, but by the enthusiasm with which she took up new challenges: in education at Boston College, in non-profit guidance, and in charitable works. She was clearly guided by a special, spiritual mission. We will miss her.
