George N. Gounaris

George N. Gounaris August 16, 1931 - July 1, 2013 Brooklyn - George Nicholaos Gounaris, 82, of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home. Born in Chios, Greece to Nicholaos and Stella Gounaris he lived most of his life in Brooklyn. George was very passionate about his Greek heritage but was extremely proud of his American citizenship. George immigrated to America from Greece in 1968 and lived the American Dream. He educated his children and built a thriving restaurant business called Athenian Pizza. George's favorite past time was conversation and coffee with his best friends, Tom, Arthur, Spiro and Maki. George was extremely loving and proud of his three children, Chryssoula Walsh of Kennebunk, ME, Stella Zervos of St. Petersburg, FL and Nickolaos Gounaris of Vernon and four grandchildren, Timmy, Mikey, Alex and Felicity. He is also survived by his wife Katina Gounaris of Brooklyn; his two brothers Demetrios and Isadore of Danielson; his three sisters, Katina Christopher of Lake Worth, FL, Popi Houlis of Chios, Greece and Elaine Milonas of Athens, Greece as well as his many loving nieces, nephews and other friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson, CT. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Danielson, CT at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson. Memorial donations may be made in George's name to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Water Street, Danielson, CT 06239.
