Harold Lewis Obituary

Harold G. Lewis, Sr. January 30, 1926 - August 31, 2013 Plainfield - Harold G. Lewis, Sr. 89, of Collins Rd. Central Village beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Byrd) Lewis passed away Saturday at U-Mass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. He was born January 30, 1926 in Dayville, a son of the late George and Evelyn (Beauregard) Lewis and had lived in Plainfield for most of his life. Mr. Lewis was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was employed for over 30 years by Toce Brothers in Torrington, retiring many years ago. Mr. Lewis was a Life Member and Past Commander of VFW Post # 5446 and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He enjoyed playing golf. He leaves four sons, Thomas J. Lewis of Daytona, FL., Robert Lewis of Central Village, William Lewis of Moosup, Gary Lewis of Mystic; four daughters Barbara McShane of Central Village, Beverly Garrity of Bedford, NH, Elizabeth Lewis-Crichton of Knoxville, TN, Donna Thorsten of Summerville, SC. one sister Norma Root of Plainfield. 21 Grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Harold G. Lewis, Jr. and a grandson Marc Lewis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 A.M. in St. John the Apostle Church, Plainfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday 5:30 - 8:00 P.M. at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 5446, Winsor Ave. Plainfield, CT. 06374.
