John L. Blattler, Jr. May 11, 1929 - November 12, 2013 MONTVILLE - John L. Blattler, Jr., 84, died early Tuesday morning at home in Montville. He was born on May 11, 1929 in Wayne, New Jersey the son of the late John L. and Martha (Mueller) Blattler, Sr. On January 27, 1951 John married Alice E. Newton in Montville. They were married for 53 years until her passing in December 2004. In 1951 John enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served four years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1955. In 2008 he was presented a public service award from the Connecticut Secretary of State for his honorable and faithful service to his country. After his military service he returned home and began a career at Dow Chemical Company in Gales Ferry. He worked for Dow for more than 30 years and retired as a supervisor. Then he kept active working for local limousine services and car dealerships for over 25 years. John was a lifetime member of the Montville Polish Club, but his favorite hobby was visiting the local casinos and playing the slot machines. He was a hard worker and a proud Veteran, but most of all he was a loving husband, devoted father and adoring grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his two daughters, Melinda L. Dziavit and husband Allen of Chaplin and Carolyn L. Evans and husband George of Montville; four grandchildren, Alexander and Alyson Dziavit and Jessica and Kyle Evans; a great-grandson Colton Bradford; a brother and sister in law, Gerald and Betty Newton of Groton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Albert Blattler, Cynthia Dombrowski, Marie Skulchuk and Frieda Skulczyck. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 10:00 A.M. at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Rd, Uncasville. Burial will follow in Comstock Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 22, from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Center for Hospice Care of SE CT, 227 Dunham St, Norwich, CT.
